Proper nounSingular United States Army Plural uncountable United States Army (uncountable)
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The United States Army is the branch of the United States armed forces responsible for land-based military operations. It is the largest and oldest established branch of the U.S. military, and is one of seven uniformed services. The modern Army has its roots in the Continental Army which was formed on 14 June 1775, before the establishment of the United States, to meet the demands of the American Revolutionary War. Congress created the United States Army on 14 June 1784 after the end of the war to replace the disbanded Continental Army. The Army considers itself to be descended from the Continental Army and thus dates its inception from the origins of that force. The primary mission of the Army is to "provide necessary forces and capabilities ... in support of the National Security and Defense Strategies." Control and operation is administered by the Department of the Army, one of the three military departments of the Department of Defense. The civilian head is the Secretary of the Army and the highest ranking military officer in the department is the Chief of Staff, unless the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff are Army officers. The Regular Army reported a strength of 539,675 soldiers; the Army National Guard (ARNG) reported 360,351 and the United States Army Reserve (USAR) reported 197,024 putting the combined component strength total 1,097,050 soldiers (2008 Financial Year). I've heard speculation of them switching the pattern of the uniform from the ACU Digital pattern to the Multicam pattern? What do you think? Will they? Should they? Asked by yum_yum_getcha_sum - Sun Nov 25 15:58:38 2007 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. They should get rid of the zipper and all the velcro, and make the fabric more resilient. I don't know who designed the uniform, but they certainly didn't have field expedience in mind. Have you ever tried to sew on a zipper in the field? Now compare that to sewing on a button. Answered by DOOM - Sun Nov 25 16:04:51 2007 Can I join the United States Army with a GED?
Q. I heard you can, im going for my diploma and plan on joining at 18, but might just wait til im 17 next month and just get my GED and join. Thanks. Its not as much as I want to quit, I just want to get into basic faster. I get decent grades. Asked by PFC MIKE - Wed Jul 22 00:24:12 2009 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. Yes, but they only accept a few hundred a year with a GED. If you want to ship out earlier, then you should talk to a recruiter and see if he is still accepting recruits with GEDs for the year. You would also need your parents to consent. If your ship out date isn't an issue, then just finish school and then join. Hope this helps. Good luck!
