How to clean my purse, which had apple cider vinegar spilled in it?
Q. I had a container of apple cider vinegar in my purse (I had taken some ingredients for a natural cold remedy to the office), which spilled all over my purse. In fact, I am still sick and I can't smell it at all, but everyone else can. :( Anyway, do you have any tips for cleaning my purse? It's made of synthetic material (no leather, etc.). Also, it's a rather large purse.

A. Baking soda and cornstarch are natural ways to get rid of odours. I would wash it out again with a mixture of water, laundry detergent, and baking soda. You may want to then sprinkle it with baking soda and let it sit for a while, then rinse and dry once more.

How do I clean gasoline out of my purse?
Q. While I was filling my little Vespa at the gas station, the nozzle came loose and spilled some gas into the space underneath my seat where I put my purse and stuff I carry and the bottom part of my purse got gas all over it. It's not exactly soaked, but it's there and the articles inside (such as cellphone, keys, etc.) did not get any of it, but did get the smell. How can I wash my purse? Can I put it in the washing machine, even though there is a warning on the lid about not putting clothes with gas in them because the fumes are a fire hazard? Can I just wash it real well with soap and water in my sink? Please help!
Asked by mfchl - Thu Jun 14 22:19:15 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If it is a plastic or vinyl purse, go ahead with mild soap and water and let the inside dry. If it is a leather purse you will need to use saddle soap. You might try some upholstery cleaner for a fabric purse.

What can I do about a fake leather purse that feels almost sticky and it squeaks when moved?
Q. I just got this really cute fake leather purse from one of my favourite stores and they went to the back to get me a new one but the leather feels weird. Its not exactly sticky but its almost rubbery and i paid alot for this purse. Is it just one of those things that need time to wear into or is this permanent? Or are all leather purses like this when bought? Any advice would be great :) Thank you!
Asked by GreenGoddess - Mon Jan 4 20:33:20 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Try to smear it with classic Nivea face cream. Leave it for a few hours (maybe whole night) and then rinse out with serviette or soft towel. I have never done this to my leather stuff, but If I need someday I would probably give it a try. Good luck :)

How long do you use a wallet or purse before it needs replacing?
Q. Mine are wearing out, both purse and wallet, but they're only a few years old. These are my daily use items, not fancy schmancy stuff which lasts forever 'cos it's used less frequently. The more answers the better, as I would also appreciate suggestions on good brands for a new daily use purse or wallet. Thanks!

A. I've had many wallets. mostly leather ones that usually wore out in a couple years . They started fraying and well, just looking worn. My husband got me a coach wallet 7 years ago and it looks just as good as it did then. Get a coach wallet for sure and purse if you could afford it. pricey but worth it! Look for sales at coach outlets or on-line.

A. Try a leather lotion cleaning product. But if it's wine, mustard, or grape juice stains, I doubt the cleaner will work. You could ask a dry cleaner for recommendations about which product is the best.

how do I clean mold off a leather purse without damaging the dye job?
Q. I bought a leather purse, dyed dark blue, in southern climes, and brought it home to the north. There are patches of mold that I need to remove, but would like to leave the color intact. obviously, bleach is not the answer. What may I use?
Asked by lynndramsop - Mon Sep 3 09:47:29 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You need to use a specific mold killer for leather such as LTT Em Clean. This will kill the spores so that they will not come back. Cleaning on its own will not do this and the mold will simply keep returning.

How do you clean a light blue vinyl purse that has grease like marks around the edges?
Q. I have a baby blue coach vinyl purse. over the years a grease like residue has formed around the stitching and leather areas. i have tried to use warm water with mild soap and a bristle brush but it hasnt worked. I am not sure how to clean it and have no idea what the residue/stains are - i just know that they are heavily soiled and look like grease.

A. You could try concentrated orange cleaner, neat and leave on a while before scrubbing gently with a fine bristled nail brush. You should not need to treat as in leather if its vinyl . The orange cleaner smells lovely and fresh and its probably what your goo cleaner is mostly made of anyway . Orange cleaner concentrate is available at cleaning supplies shops - not usually the supermarket. You can use it for a multitude of cleaning solutions as a concentrate or diluted - its marvellous for getting off sticky things, grease and for most general cleaning so you can save money on all of those cleaners
