A. Lot of money over the year, better of getting a bike going for a swim and a sensible diet. And do not fall for the shakes and the detox diets, they just make your wallet a lot lighter

I was ripped off by LA Fitness (sold a membership with gym exclusions). Anyone else have the same problem?
Q. I was sold a membership at the Eldridge Road & West Little York Gym and specifically requested a multi state all gym access. I tried to use the membership at what they call a signature club only to find out I had been sold a bill of goods & could not work out there unless I paid another $100 plus $20 per month. Look on the internet before you buy. This organization has more bad, disreputable stuff written about it than any health club I have belonged to in the past 20 years. I spoke with Shannon on the phone at corporate and she was the typical recording. I will be cancelling my membership & if you are smart you will not join this lying bunch of theives!

A. I made an appointment with LA Fitness and they wouldn't discuss anything with me until I filled out a form. I tried a second time and the same thing happened so I just gave it up as a hard sell racket. They advertised a low month by month membership and I couldn't pin them down. I'm not surprised by what happened to you. I am thinking about trying Curves.

A. well la fitness is by far the most beautiful gyms out there, however they are over priced. You can get the same benefit from 24hour fitness and at a much better price. I dont rmember the prices off hand, but the la fitness is wayyy to much for the normal person.

Is my LA Fitness membership transferable to another state?
Q. I am moving from Minnesota to Texas and I am wondering if anyone knows if my membership is transferable. I tried to ask at my gym but no one seamed to know the answer. Should I end my membership and then resign up in Texas? Any help is greatly appreciated. I have read my contract and nothing is stated in it about being able to transfer it to another state. If anyone that works for La Fitness knows the answer or has done this please let me know.

A. Hey, I work for LA fitness, therefore can give you a quick recap of them all. LA fitness varies and usually we get specials coming in. There should be a special on Monday, since it's our closing so we get good prices at that time. not contract. mnth to mnth. usually around 70+ down with first and last month and monthly billing of 19.99, 29.99 and others. Bally's usually works based on contract. 3-5 year contracts. Also, if anything I wouldnt go with them since the filed prop 11, which means most of the clubs will shut down sooner than later. we get a lot of ppl from bally come to us cause they know, they'll be gone soon enough. 24 hour has pretty much similar rates to LA fitness. also they get specials every now and then, but their… [cont.]

How Long Does It Take To See Results In Excersising in a gym?
Q. M buddy and I have just got interested in a local LA Fitness gym and purchased memberships. We don't have any weight problems and actually weigh less than we should. We want to build up our abdomens to a six pack. If we go to the gym every week Monday through Thursday, how long do you think it would take to see results?
Asked by DUDE - Fri Jan 16 00:21:29 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it depends on the intensity of your workout. If its extremely intense(going to muscle failure) then you should see some sort of results within a month or two, especially if you havent worked out before. If its just moderate exertion then it should be 2-3 months. Alot of my friends(who havent worked out before) have made 30-40 lb gains in 2-3 months on the bench. Keep with it and push yourself to the max, it'll come eventually. Totally worth it. Good luck.

How much is a base membership at LA Fitness on Staten Island?
Q. Does anybody have an idea of how much a base membership is for LA Fitness on Staten Island? Also, is this a co-ed gym? Thanks, Steve
Asked by Steven Z - Sat Feb 7 20:54:53 2009 - - 2 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Although I live in IL, I can tell you that they are always running deals...I got in at $29.99/month before the gym ever opened...they claim the regular rate is $49.99 a month with a $250 initiation fee. Yet, I always see them running specials. It is co-ed. Not sure what gyms you have there, but I find it's MUCH nicer than Ballys, but not as nice as Lifetime. I would like if they had a steam room and towel service.

What is the point in paying a last month's dues for a gym membership?
Q. I joined LA Fitness and they made me pay 2 dues up front - "first and last month's dues." From what I understand, after you cancel your gym membership, it doesn't "expire" until 30 more days - and the "last month's dues" cover this extended grace period. So what is the point in paying double dues up front?

A. The point is that the demanded it and you paid it. They have your money and you gave it freely

Can anyone tell me which is the best gym to go to: Bally's, 24-hr Fitness or LA Fitness?
Q. I want to get a gym membership, and I'm trying to decide between Bally's, 24 Hour Fitness and LA Fitness. Does anyone have any specific experiences, like membership difficulties, etc. involving any of these gyms? I go out of the country from a couple of months out of each year, so I need a gym that's flexible in that regard. By the way, I live in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills/West Hollywood area), in case anyone is familiar with the clubs specific to this area.

A. my sister in law used to be a manager @ Bally's and has a lot of horror stories about the lack of security and cleanliness there. Ive never had any experience with LA Fitness, but I havent heard anything negative about it either. I am currently a member of 24hour fitness and I love it. But then again, its very convenient for me to go there (its a half mile from my home) and I have a wierd schedule and they work with me on that. If I were you, I would see about getting a 7 day pass from each place (not all for the same week of course) and keep a short journal of the pros and cons of each place...then make a decision that is best for you. work out there, get a feel for the place and its employees, and then choose based upon which gym… [cont.]

Problems with cancelling my gym membership?
Q. I Wanted to cancel my personal training membership at La Fitness but I am still being charged. For the past couple of months they tell me I have to send a letter and then that I have cancel by by the internet, then that I have to also cancel my gym membership. So I cancelled my gym membership back in august and I am still being billed for personal training even thofg I am not being charged my gym dues anymore. Is there any way I can cancel and get my money back. I don't know why I have been charged from last May to Feb of this year when I havent used their PT's in all those months. Is there a place I can also go to complain about their practices as well
Asked by Parabola - Tue Feb 5 16:39:33 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Send a notarized letter to LA Fitness stating that you do not indend to pay the fees that post date your cancellation date. Send this letter with a confirmation receipt notice from the post office or send it via Fedex so that LA fitness has to sign for it, which will prove that they received your notice.

LA Fitness membership fee anyone?!?
Q. I'm looking to join a gym and am looking into LA Fitness. I'm wondering if anyone knows how much the monthly fee would be, particularly the LA Fitness in Woodland Hills, CA. I'm also curious as to what anyone thinks about the gym, i.e. if its clean, if there's a wait for any of the equipment, etc.
Asked by Neda M - Tue Feb 3 20:20:00 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I go to the LA Fitness here in Portland, OR, and I really like it. Never ever is there a wait, though the classes, especially spinning gets pretty full quick. Very clean, and the price is great. We did pay 125.00 for two people as a fee in the beginning and pay now a monthly gym fee of 60.00 for two people. Which is pretty stinkin good when there is a pool, hot tub, sauna, and 5 raquet ball rooms included. The fee's and payment's may be alot different though there in Cali. I would call up the exact LA Fitness you will be using most of the time and meet with a instructor who will show you everything and see what you will be charged as well.

A. I really don't think you can get a membership of your own at 16 since you are not old enough to be considered legally responsible for your self (which happens at 18). You mentioned that your aunt has a membership there. Suggest that you ask her. Good Luck
