Hearing impairment or hard of hearing or deafness refers to conditions in which individuals are fully or partially unable to detect or perceive at least some frequencies of sound which can typically be heard by members of their species. Use of the term impaired implies that deafness presents an inherent disadvantage to an animal, a view that is rejected within the Deaf culture movement, where the terms Deaf and hard of hearing are preferred. There is one extremely bright student who I have become close to. She is 16 and from a prominent family in the community. The schools in Ghana don't provide the education she deserves. Her father will pay for her schooling, I am just doing the research. It seems that all the schools in the US are public. Which would mean I would need to become her guardian. Are there any schools that would admit international students??? Asked by Plum - Sun Sep 7 19:31:44 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. MSSD is right next door to Gallaudet University. They operate a high school for the deaf. Not too many people know Gallaudet University also runs a high school for the deaf next door. Q. I've already got an Associates in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies. I want to use my fluency in ASL to work with deaf people. Which career is a better choice and why? Also I am not that interested in working with people with autism or other developmental delays. Asked by Anonymous - Thu Apr 15 16:12:56 2010 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. You should go for Speech Language Pathologist because they work more with people who have hearing disorders and communication disorders. Being an SLP is more versatile and more in demand than being an Audiologist. Audiologists deal more with fitting hearing aids and demand for them is low. Audiologists tend to stay in there positions til retirement and there are not many setting they can work in. Being an SLP is the way to go if you want to have a viable high demand career.
