GermanNounBasketball m. Category: de:SportsFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams of five active players each try to score points against one another by placing a ball through a 10 feet (3.048 m) high hoop (the goal) under organized rules. Basketball is one of the most popular and widely viewed sports in the world. Points are scored by throwing (shooting) the ball through the basket from above; the team with more points at the end of the game wins. The ball can be advanced on the court by bouncing it (dribbling) or passing it between teammates. Disruptive physical contact (foul) is penalized and there are restrictions on how the ball can be handled (violations). Through time, basketball has developed to involve common techniques of shooting, passing and dribbling, as well as players' positions, and offensive and defensive structures. Typically, the tallest members of a team will play center or one of two forward positions, while shorter players or those who possess the best ball handling skills and speed, play the guard positions. While competitive basketball is carefully regulated, numerous variations of basketball have developed for casual play. In some countries, basketball is also a popular spectator sport. While competitive basketball is primarily an indoor sport, played on a basketball court, less regulated variations played in the outdoors have become increasingly popular among both inner city and rural groups. GNU Free Documentation License Where did intramural basketball originate and how can you start an intramural basketball team? Q. Who came up with the idea of intramural basketball? Asked by jay - Thu Apr 26 15:31:46 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. just taking a guess here...intramural basketball came about because students like competitive sports but weren't quite good enough or just didn't want the commitment that came along with playing college ball, sooo they made a league where they can actually compete with out the rigid commitment. i think you can start one by just getting a team together and signing them up wherever your school intramural sports are usually held. Answered by ugochi - Thu Apr 26 15:55:27 2007 How i can i play basketball for a college after graduating high school in Georgia? Q. Im 18 already finished with high school. The high school i went to was terrible in basketball, but I want to play for any colleges in georgia. Is there any type of programs/basketball camps available in ga where you can have college scouts look at you? Asked by Jay - Fri May 22 00:36:18 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am not an expert, but try to get a high light reel together and send it to some schools. You might have to be a walk on and just show hustle and good talent to your coach. Many players made it that way, check out Scottie Pippen for instance. He was a towel boy if I am not mistaken. Sometimes dedication and hard work are everything.
