The word γυμνάσιον (gymnasion) was used in Ancient Greece, meaning a locality for both physical and intellectual education of young men (see gymnasium (ancient Greece)). The later meaning of intellectual education persisted in German and other languages to denote a certain type of school providing secondary education, the Gymnasium, whereas in English the meaning of physical education was pertained in the word gym. The Greek word gymnasium means "place to be naked" and was used in ancient Greece to designate a locality for the education of young men, including physical education (gymnastics, i.e. exercise) which was customarily performed naked, as well as bathing, and studies. For the Greeks, physical education was considered as important as cognitive learning. Most Greek gymnasia had libraries that could be utilized after relaxing in the baths. From Wikipedia under the

Could gyms across the World use their treadmills, bikes & weight machines to generate electricity? And provide power to their own lights and maybe even to the grid - practical or impractical? Much of the homeless have always been Green by recycling cans. Maybe homeless shelters could get treadmilss from Gyms acquiring new ones and have an option for the homeless to make some money by generating electricity. Asked by Blue Were Rhino - Fri Jan 11 14:19:34 2008 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments A. I agree with gcnp58 - any one person cannot make a dent. However, if all of the health clubs asked manufacturers to make new models that could output any electricity generated to a battery bank, then eventually health clubs could reduce their total consumption from the grid. It's a good idea. Health clubs could also use solar hot water, solar voltaic and other technologies to reduce their energy use and carbon footprint. Everyone should do it. It starts with a trickle... Answered by terrypk - Fri Jan 11 18:44:11 2008 What if there where energy producing gyms? Q. What if there where gyms that had workout machines that generated electricity? For example, an exercise bike with Tesla's coil or something of that nature? Is this possible or realistic? And you receive a discount on your energy bill? Asked by Enrique C - Tue Oct 28 18:55:44 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. This is possible, sure. I believe they are talking about putting a few of these in the gym at my university. I also read somewhere they're trying to put these in poorer countries that don't normally have access to electricity. Basically they would have teams of riders to generate, and switch off. There are also a number of websites out there to teach you how to make your own--though don't expect too much electricity to be gained by a single person. Q. I want to join a gym but i dont have any money this month and i dont want to pay for a gym i dont like. Are there any gyms that have trials and dont cost anything? Asked by miley - Sat Feb 20 17:32:21 2010 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Trials yes, but a month I sincerely doubt it. You may get lucky and find a 14 day, I know my local LA Fitness has a 7day free trial. What my friend does when he comes home for college during Christmas is gym hops. Do free trials for close local gyms that should get you anywhere from 2-3 weeks of free gym time. Answered by Justin M - Sat Feb 20 17:41:39 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Gyms"
