How can I pass an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)?
Q. I'm being released to active duty in a month. In order to be released I need to pass a 2-2-2 and height & weight. How can I lose 10 pounds and pass an APFT in a little less than a month.
Asked by A.Spen - Sun Mar 29 20:18:31 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Bill's basically right. Drink only water. No fast food. Eat foods high in protein. Do at least two two minute sets of push ups and sit ups before each run on run days. Do a day of sprints (60 second sprint, 120 seconds walking), a day of medium distance running 2.5-3.0 miles and a day of long distance running 4.0-5.0 miles each week. On your off run days, do LOTS of push ups (different types, diamonds, wide arm, etc) and do various ab exercises (crunches, flutter kicks, etc). Take one day off a week. You'll improve dramatically, but if you're way off, you won't make it.

When you do your APFT(Army Physical Fitness Test) do you have a time limit?
Q. When you have to do your APFT do you have a time limit? Not when you have to do you 2-mile run...but when you have to do your push-ups and sit-ups. Do you have to do it all at once or can you take 10 second breaks when you're tired and then finish the rest...or something like that. I'm just wondering if you have to do your APFT straight through or if you can take little short breaks then finish the rest. Please only answer if you have army experience!

A. you have two minutes to do each aspect:, sit ups, push ups. there will be a break in between each component. I know in the Navy you have a partner for the push ups and sit ups and your break is when they are doing theirs. Your score is based on how many you crank out in those two minutes. the run is timed based on age and gender.

I have exactly 2 months to take the Army Physical Fitness test. Is that enough time to start training so I can
Q. I am a 24 year old female and I really need to pass this APFT in May. I am wondering if after not working out at all if it's possible to get ready for it.

A. My brother took that and he trained for months ahead of time and was relatively active before that too. I would say you are cutting it close! Good luck!

Applying for a Army ROTC 4-year scholarship, do i have to do a APFT or the presidential physical fitness test?
Q. So I am applying for a Army ROTC 4-year scholarship and i am going to apply to Norwich University. On Norwich's website it said for a AROTC scholarship that you have to complete a APFT but from a letter from the Army they said that i have to complete a Presidential Physical Fitness test. So which one is it? If its the Presidential one, I am already set if its the APFT, I need to work on my 2 mile run
Asked by Juan - Thu Jul 9 23:11:16 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To get the Army ROTC scholarship, you have to pass the APFT at 60% in each event.

Army Physical Fitness Test - Questions and Worries?
Q. So I put a post up yesterday about my situation i'm in and now I am looking for some good advice. I had to take a APFT test on short notice (Like 30 hrs or so) I took it and failed the run by 40 seconds and pushups by 8. After the test, I realized that with all the running I have been doing (about 2 months) Running twice a day (Distance of 2-2.5 miles each running period) to drop weight, I didn't really concern myself with pushups and sit-ups and after i tested on them, I felt it before the run on the test. (I also was under the weather as well so that didn't help.) So I have to take it again tomorrow, and so i don't have any time to train for the push-ups (I passed sit-ups). And so i was wondering is there really anything I can do to… [cont.]

A. Take Sudafed 45 minutes before you run. Seriously -- this will help A TON. Also, a few hours before the run, try meditating: focus on each part of your body and feel it relax for about 10-15 seconds, starting with your toes, all the way up to your forehead. (It should take about an hour.) That should clear up your anxiety.

US Army Infantry Fitness Test?
Q. I know what the fitness standards are for the Basic Training APFT, but what are the standards for the Infantry physical fitness test. Are they the same as basic army APFT?
Asked by Eric S - Tue Sep 15 18:53:41 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yep, they're the same, although most leadership expects more out of you because you are infantry. I generally saw that most wanted a minimum of 70's on each event, but even still that is easy. As fat as I got while I was drafted back in, I still was able to score a 240. It's pretty much all about how much heart you got. There isn't a lot of that in the Army anymore.

US Army Physical Fitness Test question?
Q. I was just wondering about how much would a Recruit improve during Infantry OSUT? (If they went in being able to do 60 sit ups in 2 minutes, 50 push ups in 2 minutes, and run 2 miles in 14:45 or less...that would be 71 points for push ups and sit ups and 75 points for run) Is it reasonable to assume that by the final APFT in OSUT that they would be able to do 72 sit ups in 2 minutes, 64 push ups in 2 minutes, and run 2 miles in 13:40 or less (That would equal 90 points per category...I would like to be able to get the APFT Excellence Badge)?

A. Hi, erm that is a very reasonable assumption, my guess would be: max on sit ups (78), 58 Push ups, and sub 13:00 2 mile...note the Army is VERY strict on push-up form and I am pretty sure you can't do as many correct push ups as you think, but your run time will go through the roof, and sit ups will increase quite a bit. Personally I went in doing 59 sit-ups, 2miles in 15:13 and 48 Push-ups, now i run 12:58 2 mile, 76 sit ups, but 49 CORRECT push-ups >_> which sucks because I was hoping to graduate with a 290+. Best of luck to you man! Oh and most infantryman don't even wear the badge if they have it, they think it looks gay.

Army Physical Fitness Test req's would I make them for WOCS?
Q. I am very interested and have dreamed of becoming a UH-60 (originally a Huey) aero-medical Helicopter pilot in the Military for a long time... but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I would even be competitive physically. I am 21 years old, 5' 9", 197 lbs, on a treadmill i can run 1.5 miles in an average of 11 minutes, max push-ups I have done in 2 minutes were 62. max sit ups I have done is 57 sit ups in 2 minutes. Does anyone know the guidelines for the APFT for males using my above measurements? Thanks a ton for your reply it is really helpful I don't believe I can crunch the weight though as I have always been heavy but don't look it. Do you know if there are any exceptions for this?
Asked by CnCnZnJorC - Thu Aug 7 00:31:16 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. the minimum for your age is approx: 1600min 2 mile 52 pu in 2 min 42 su in 2 min you have to exceed these in order to be competitive basic training chart: previous active duty chart: the active duty has change over the last 2 years but not significantly so use it as a guide only. rule of thumb: 60% in each event is passing. 50% in basic. added note, treadmill results are always deceiving. You must go out on the street and time yourself to get a true idea of your shape. No exceptions to weight except of course using the alternative body fat standards (if u don't meet weight, u must meet BF standards). I can tell you that you're allowed 24% body fat as a male @ 21years of age. You can find your body-fat my measuring your… [cont.]

I need to ace the Army Physical Fitness Test?
Q. I have until May before I ship off, but I need to ace the APFT by then. I can barely run 1 mile, and I can do so in just under 8 minutes. In two minutes per exercise I can do 37 push ups and 38 sit ups. I would like to be able to run 2 miles in under 13 minutes, and be able to run 6 miles in under an hour. I would also like to be able to 71 push ups in 2 minutes, and 78 sit ups in 2 minutes. I'm working out everyday, but I feel as though my routine isn't producing results. Thank you in advance!

How can I improve my APFT fast?
Q. For a long time I've been unable to do most excersice due to medical reasons. Those problems are now gone, and I have an APFT (army physical fitness test) coming up that I've just found out about last week. Up untill I found out about it, I was basically just doing my physical therapy workouts, with a few more serious excercise's thrown in every week. As soon as I found out about the test, I stepped up my regimen but I am still no where close to passing and the test is around Aug 1st. I've been taking some protein and BCAA's to help, but every time I give myself a mock APFT I fail at least the pushups and run. My workout routine as is: Muscle failure for pushups monday and wednesday, the 8 minutes of pain workout on tuesday's and thursday's [cont.]

A. If you've been on a no exercise profile for so long, you should be exempt from this PT test and take it at a later date.

17 to 21 to be a ranger?
Q. Considering joining the army and then trying to become a ranger, I read that you must "Score 60 percent on the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in the 17 to 21 age group", does that mean you have to be 17 to 21 to become a ranger (as I am 24)? Also on average how long does it take before you can get a chance to become a ranger?
Asked by Jack C - Thu Mar 12 01:58:14 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You are graded as a 17-21 year old regardless of your age. This makes it a little easier to max out on your pushups and sit ups but holds you to a higher run standard. If you can get RIP in your enlistment contract, you can get started in a Ranger career almost immediately. Good luck.

I have a chubby face, yet a six pack...wtf?
Q. Alright, something thats been bugging me for a while now, is that, despite being an athletically built and pretty muscular individual, I seem to have a fat face when seen from the side. I do ROTC, and I can run 2 miles in 11:42, scored a 300 (perfect) in the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) and have a heart rate of 63. I have a six pack, which would lead me to believe that my body fat percentage is very low. I'm 18 and my parents claim its just "baby fat," that my face hasn't fully developed yet, but still it's a bit irritating. Any advice on getting a more tone face, or why this is, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Asked by Patrick - Sat Jan 10 14:36:30 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well some people just tend to have a chubby face, even though they're not even fat. I wouldn't worry too much, because in time I think it would get better.

How do I decrease my run time?
Q. I'm in the military and I have the APFT (army physical fitness test) coming up, where we have to run our two mile in 19:36 (for my age group) I used to run my two mile in 16min. but now I am in really bad shape due to having a baby and not having enough time to get in the gym. I ran the other day (Saturday) but only for a mile but my time was horrible (10mins). I need to improve it and I know I can but I just am not that motivated plus I'm always exhausted after work and taking care of the baby. I need to hopefully get it down by 2mins in two weeks. I've reduced it once before from 26min to 16min in two months while in basic training so I know it's do-able. Any tips?
Asked by chichibaby - Mon Sep 22 14:03:32 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Just start putting in sometime to get in that category. Very soon you need to start running for times up to 30 minutes, getting 2miles in plus some extra. Stretch really well too. You need to do about 45 situps and 17 pushups too. Are those good to go? You can do interval training wear you run on track or something and after every lap do some situps and pushups. This will benefit every test. If you do the interval training, try to do it, not for distance covered, but for time. Try to get up to 15-20 minutes. And the laps should be quick with minimal recovery. If you can get to wear you are running for 30 minutes and a little over 2 miles you should be good. Because 19:36 you won't need too much speed just worry about putting… [cont.]
