The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) is designed to test the muscular strength/endurance and cardiovascular respiratory fitness of soldiers in the United States Army. Soldiers are given a score based on their performance in three events consisting of the push-up (PU), sit-up (SU), and a two-mile run. Possible scores range from 0 to 100 points in each event. A passing score is a total of 180 or higher with a minimum score of 60 in each event. Army Field Manual (FM) 21-20 covers the administration of the APFT, as well as ways to conduct personal, squad and unit level physical training (PT) sessions. A soldier is required to take a "record" (meaning for official records) APFT at least twice each calendar year. If, due to a diagnosed medical condition, a soldier is temporarily unable to conduct one or more of the events in the record APFT, the soldier can be granted an extension to allow him or her to overcome his or her injury and return to an acceptable level of physical fitness. If a soldier has a permanent medical condition that keeps him or her from conducting the two mile run, an alternate aerobic event (2.5 mile walk, 800 yard swim, or 6.2 mile bike) is taken. There are no alternate events for the push-up or sit-up. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License I need to ace the Army Physical Fitness Test? Q. I have until May before I ship off, but I need to ace the APFT by then. I can barely run 1 mile, and I can do so in just under 8 minutes. In two minutes per exercise I can do 37 push ups and 38 sit ups. I would like to be able to run 2 miles in under 13 minutes, and be able to run 6 miles in under an hour. I would also like to be able to 71 push ups in 2 minutes, and 78 sit ups in 2 minutes. I'm working out everyday, but I feel as though my routine isn't producing results. Thank you in advance! Asked by Jon P - Wed Feb 18 09:31:41 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments Stamina and Endurance? Q. i have an APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test) on Augest 2nd and i need to get my one mile from 10 min to 8:50 by then. is this possible? how can i work on my endurence and stamina to keep going strong and fast the entire way to shave almost 2 minutes off my mile in less then a month Asked by Brian D - Fri Jul 11 00:32:57 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. practice, practice, practice! This is going to be tough - you may just have to put some more heat into your run. But, for every minute you shave off, each minute becomes harder. If you can, lose weight and gain muscle if you can. Every day practice w/ periods of higher intensity Answered by Desperate - Fri Jul 11 00:37:47 2008 About to enter Army Basic Training - Serious Question?
Q. I am an 18 year old Future Soldier, set to enter Basic Training at Fort Sill on September 16, 2008. The only thing is, I'm scared about passing the Physical Fitness Test. I'm definitely not in shape. My one mile run time is about 10:40, and have trouble doing regular push-ups. (Right now, I'm doing "easy" push-ups, with my knees on the ground.) Right now, I do 20 "easy" push-ups a day (ten in the morning, ten at night), and 40 regular push-ups a day (twenty in the morning, twenty at night). I seriously have no idea how I'm going to be able to get up to the APFT standards. However, millions of people have gone through basic training, and I'm sure thousands of people have been in the exact same boat I'm currently in, and passed. I just… [cont.] Asked by chuck117 - Wed Jul 30 23:09:49 2008 - - 8 Answers - 1 Comments A. Believe me, if you want to pass, you will. As you said, millions have come before you and millions have passed. The ones that don't are either unlucky due to injury, or just mentally quit. They do not expect you to show up in peak physical condition, but believe me they will work to get you there. Just give it everything you've got and don't quit. When you are hurting, when you are tired, when you think that you have nothing left, just look inside yourself and go a little further. Don't stop when you're tired. Feel the rush of adrenaline. Grit your teeth if you have to and keep on going. Answered by Eagle1 Fox2 - Wed Jul 30 23:17:28 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT)"
