The 5BX (Five Basic Exercises) Plan is an exercise program developed for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) by Bill Orban in the late 1950s, first published in 1961.

The RCAF asked Orban to develop a fitness program for their pilots, a third of whom were not considered fit to fly at the time. The plan was innovative in two respects. Firstly, it did not require access to specialized equipment. Many RCAF pilots were located in remote bases in northern Canada, with no access to gymnasium facilities, so it was important to offer a means of keeping fit without their use. Secondly, the plan only required 11 minutes per day to be spent on the exercises.

While performing research in Illinois, Orban had noticed that, when testing oxygen intake, long periods of exercise did not necessarily lead to significant improvement. This led him to the conclusion that the intensity of exercise was more important to improving fitness than the amount of time spent on it. This aspect of the plan drew a negative reaction from others in the field but the 5BX program proved its worth in the three years of testing that the RCAF performed before releasing the program..

The 5BX Plan is composed of six charts arranged in increasing order of difficulty. Each chart is composed of five exercises that are performed within 11 minutes. The first 4 basic exercises are Calisthenics and the last an Aerobic exercise. As you progress within the system the number of each type of exercise that must be performed increases and the difficulty of each exercise increases.

The exercises are no longer performed by the service (2008), and are considered unnecessarily hazardous in part because they are unsupervised. Many exercise physiologists consider the sit-up in the higher levels to be capable of causing spinal injury, and therefore unsuitable for an unsupervised program. The sit-up exercise can be replaced with the more modern crunch (exercise)

Linear system Question.?
Q. Solving Linear Systems using Linear Combinations? Solve these systems using the combination method. Show work directions: Solve each system of equations for x and y interms of the other variables. 8bx + 12 ab= -7ay 4ay + 9 ab = -5bx (Combination method) (Show Work) (Solve for x and y interms of a and b) thanks so much... i just cant figure this one out Thanks a lot Lucy. A. Assumption: By combination, you mean the addition/elimination method. 8bx + 12ab = -7ay 4ay + 9ab = -5bx Rearrange the second so that it is in the same order as the other. 4ay + 9ab - 4ay = -5bx - 4ay 9ab + 5bx = -5bx - 4ay + 5bx 5bx + 9ab = -4ay Your two equations are now: 8bx + 12ab = -7ay 5bx + 9ab = -4ay Multiply the first equation by 5. 5(8bx + 12ab) = 5(-7ay) 5(8bx) + 5(12ab) = -35ay 40bx + 60ab = -35ay Multiply the second equation by -8. -8(5bx + 9ab) = -8(-4ay) -8(5bx) - 8(9ab) = 32ay -40bx - 72ab = 32ay Your modified equations are: 40bx + 60ab = -35ay -40bx - 72ab = 32ay Add them bother. 40bx + 60ab = -35ay -40bx - 72ab = 32ay --- -12ab = -3ay Divide both sides by -3a. -12ab / -3a = -3ay / -3a 4b = y Plug this into one of… [cont.]

Pre-Cal question that I can't seem to finish.?
Q. 5 f(x) + f(1-x) = x^2. What is f(x)? I think I need to use ax^2 + bx +c. So, 5 f(x) = 5 (ax^2 + bx + c). f (1-x) = (a(1-x)^2 + b(1-x) + c). 5 (ax^2 + bx + c) + (a(1-x)^2 + b(1-x) + c) = x^2 5ax^2 + 5bx + 5c + a(1^2-x-x+x^2) + b - bx + c = x^2 6ax^2 + 4bx + 6c + a^2 - 2ax = x^2. This is as far as I can get. I was wondering if anyone could show me how to get the answer for "What is f(x)?" ? Also if I am doing something wrong I was wondering what it is and how to fix it. Thanks for the help.

A. You're on the right track. starting at your second to last line: 5ax^2 + 5bx + 5c +a(1-2x+x^2) + b - bx + c = x^2 1) Group the x^2 terms together, the x terms together, and the constants together, like this: 6ax^2 + 4bx + 6c + a + b - 2ax = x^2 (note, this differs from your last line, I think you made a mistake) 2) Next, put everything on one side of the equals line so the right side is zero. (6a-1)x^2 + (4b-2a)x + 6c + a + b = 0 3) We know the x^2 coefficient has to be zero for the above to be true. So you can solve for "a" 6a-1=0 a=1/6 4) We also know the x coefficient has to be zero. Solve for "b" 4b-2a = 0 4b=2/6 b=1/12 5) Finally, we know the constant terms have to sum to zero. Solve for "c" 6c + a + b = 0 6c=-1/6-1/12 c=-1 [cont.]
