Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. Physical fitness comprises two related concepts: general fitness (a state of health and well-being) and specific fitness (a task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform specific aspects of sports or occupations). In previous years, fitness was commonly defined as the capacity to carry out the day’s activities without undue fatigue. However, as automation increased leisure time, changes in lifestyles following the industrial revolution rendered this definition insufficient. These days, physical fitness is considered a measure of the body’s ability to function efficiently and effectively in work and leisure activities, to be healthy, to resist hypokinetic diseases, and to meet emergency situations. GNU Free Documentation License What to do the night before a physical fitness test the next morning? Q. I have a PT Physical Fitness test tomorrow morning for a job, it includes the following: 1.5 Mile run, Maximum Push-ups, Timed 1-minute situps, the sit and reach, the vertical jump. Does anyone have any advice for what to do the night before? Please advise. Asked by chrisnjodysimms - Tue Oct 7 17:27:03 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. just relax. Eat a good healthy meal. Get at least 8 hours of rest. In the morning eat some oatmeal, plain, that way you can get some carbs into your body. Don't drink milk otherwise it can curdle and you will get sick. Answered by William G - Tue Oct 7 17:36:15 2008 Why is flexibility important to physical fitness? Q. I am a very good athlete, and recently took the Presidential Challenge. I passed Presidential (better than 85%) with ease on every single test and finally took the flexibility test. I didn't even get the National level (better than 50%) on that. I'm clearly pretty angry because now I can't get any kind of award. My question is, why is flexibility important? What does it have to do with my overall physical fitness, because I play sports year round and it never seems to interfere. Also, how can I become more flexible? I'm only a few centimeters off. Asked by jasmine - Sat Aug 29 14:59:09 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Flexibility is extremely beneficial to your health. The most important attribute to flexibility is that you are less prone to injury. It will also help you in all aspects of fitness as well, and not just being able to touch your toes.
